CRYSTAL VARGAS
I'm Crystal Vargas — a percussionist, performer, and educator who believes the right live music can turn a room into a moment people never forget.
For me, it was always in the blood. I was four years old, captivated by my father Glen's salsa band, when his keyboardist Juan "Pops" Santos handed me a partly-broken güiro — and that was it. My musical journey had begun! By five I had the salsa rhythm down on congas; by six I was a featured performer on Sabado Gigante. I spent the next decade playing alongside my dad and in my own band.
That love has carried me to stages I once could only dream about. A chance meeting in college led to an impromptu performance with Wyclef Jean, and from there to backing artists like Kat DeLuna, Paul Simon, Gladys Knight, and Sheila E. More recently, I've performed at the FIFA Club World Cup halftime show alongside J Balvin and Coldplay, in Rihanna's "What's My Name?" music video, in a U.S. Open commercial on ESPN, and in the New York Jets' campaign at MetLife Stadium. Online, my performances have reached over 100 million views, earned an official TikTok billboard in Las Vegas, and led to me speaking at the Concordia Summit on creator entrepreneurship.
By day, I teach 8th-grade social studies — and that's not a footnote. Teaching keeps me grounded in the things that matter most in this work: discipline, reliability, and showing up fully for people who are counting on you.
I founded Crystal Percussion and CP Events Live on that same standard. Whether I'm the one on stage or I'm matching you with the right musicians for your event, the goal never changes: I enhance the vibe without ever overtaking it. My favorite thing in the world is looking out and seeing a room let loose — everyone moving to the heartbeat of the music, nothing else mattering. That's the night I want to give you.
